Branding and systems for small businesses

Stop losingcustomersto inferiorbusinesses.

You do great work. Your online presence makes you look smaller than you are. We revamp the brand, the words, the website and the systems that run underneath them, then stay on and run them. Live in six weeks.

Twenty minutes with a founder. You keep the notes either way.

A worked example, not a client. We name real clients when we have them.

Built for owner operated businesses

We build for Dentists, Joiners, Physios, Bakers, Builders, Accountants, Vets, Salons, Electricians, Law practices.
  1. 01

They ruled you out before they called.

People settle on how a page looks in about fifty milliseconds, and the verdict barely changes if you give them ten times longer. It happens on a phone, in a list of six competitors, and you never hear about it.

Lindgaard et al., Behaviour & Information Technology, 2006

  2. 02

You look smaller than you are.

A stretched logo, three different fonts, and a Facebook page doing the heavy lifting. None of it says anything about how good the work is, and all of it is what a stranger has to go on.

  3. 03

You cannot say what you do in one line.

You can say it fine on a job site, in the third minute of a call, once someone has warmed up. On the page you get one sentence and no second chance. It is not the marketing. It is the sentence.

  4. 04

Nobody knows if any of it works.

Seventy three percent of small businesses are not confident their marketing is working, and most have under an hour a day to find out. So it drifts, and by spring the budget is quietly gone.

What we do

Five things.One team.

Take one or take all five. The brand is where most people start. The last two are the ones that decide whether the first three are still standing next year.

  1. 01Brand

A mark you would put on a van.

Logo, color, type, and the rules that keep them together once we are gone.

    Your front office, handled.

Most rebrands fade because nobody is driving the machine. We stay on: the enquiry inbox, the invoices, the review requests, one page of numbers on the first of the month.

  5. 05Systems

The job nobody wants to do twice.

Booking, quoting, stock, scheduling, the follow up that always gets forgotten. We build the small piece of software your business already runs on, badly, in a spreadsheet and three group chats.

What you actually get

Here is thework, not adescription of it.

Three of the five things, shown rather than described. The business below is a worked example we built to demonstrate the deliverables. It is not a client, and there is a note saying so on every panel.

01Website

The same business, twice

Left is the site most owner operated businesses are running: a centered greeting, a stock blue, six seconds to paint on a phone. Right is what replaces it. Same business, same work, same prices.

Going from a one second load to three raises the chance a visitor bounces by thirty two percent.Think with Google, mobile page speed benchmarks, 2016

02Brand

What lands in your drive

Not a logo on a slide. The mark in every lockup you will actually need, the palette with its values, the type with its sizes, and the one page of rules that tells whoever prints your van which is which.

One enquiry, start to booked

The same job through the process a business already has, and through the one we build. Nothing here is clever. It is the four steps that quietly cost a week, removed.

Worked example. Not a client, and not a result we are claiming.

Before you pay us anything

Check everyclaim onthis page.

Most of what an agency shows you is unverifiable by the time it matters. Everything below can be checked before any money changes hands, and the first piece of it is free.

  1. 01

The diagnosis comes first, and it is free

Twenty minutes on a call while we open your site and your Google listing. You get the recording and the written notes whether you hire us or not. It is a working sample of the thinking you would be paying for.

  2. 02

You see real work in week two

Positioning, the sentence, and the first route for the identity. Not a mood board. If it is wrong, you find out in week two on a third of the fee, not in week six on all of it.

  3. 03

Twenty five years between the two of us

Fifteen years of identity and brand strategy on one side. A decade of product and operations on pricing and promotions systems at a Fortune 20 US retailer on the other. Names, dates and references on request, on the first call.

  4. 04

You own all of it from day one

Domains, code, fonts, analytics and every account are registered in your name at kickoff, not transferred at the end. Leaving us is a password change, not a negotiation.

The week two exit

See the work. Then decide.

If the week two review lands wrong, stop there. You keep the positioning, the research and the customer interviews, you have paid a third, and you owe nothing further. We would rather lose the project than talk you into the rest of it.

Six places, one condition

Lower rates in exchange for the numbers.

Six places this year go out at roughly a third under where our rates sit afterwards. The condition is the same for all six: permission to publish your numbers at month twelve, whichever way they went. We would rather argue from your results than from our own adjectives.

Say so on the first call and the quote comes back at the introductory rate.

The film

A revamp,start to finish.

Twenty four seconds. The friction, the rebuild, and the branding, website and systems that keep it running.

Illustrative. Not client work.

What it costs

A number onthe first call. Then it doesnot move.

We do not publish a price list, because a figure with no scope attached tells you nothing except whether to flinch. We scope on the call, quote within two working days, and the quote is fixed. Not an estimate, not a range, not a starting point.

  1. 01

    Twenty minutes on a call

We open your site and your Google listing while you watch and say what is costing you customers. Free, recorded, and yours whether you hire us or not.

  2. 02

A written scope in two days

What we would build, in what order, and what we would leave alone. In plain sentences, not a deck.

  3. 03

    One fixed number

Attached to that scope. If the scope changes later you approve the change before we start it, in writing. There are no surprise line items and there is no hourly rate hiding underneath.

  • One page report on the first
  • Paid in thirds: signing, week two review, launch.
  • Stop at the week two review and you owe nothing further.
  • Two founders, three projects at a time. That is the capacity, not a tactic.
  • Retainers cancel with thirty days notice.
Get a number for your business

If we think the work will not pay for itself, we say so on the call rather than quote for it.

What we will not do

  • Go quiet after you sign.
  • Show you results we did not produce.
  • Bill a retainer we cannot show you the return on.
  • Run ads to a website we know is broken.
  • Hold your domains, your code or your fonts.
  • Sell you a story when you need a phone number above the fold.

Stop running on duct tape

Build abettermachine.

You do not need another agency telling you what you are doing wrong. You need two people to build the thing that fixes it: the brand, the site, and the systems that take the daily admin off your plate. Twenty minutes, and we map out what yours would need.

Usually within four working days. No card, no obligation, no pressure.
